Pitch #1: The Values of College beyond academics
My first pitch is to discuss the values of college beyond just academics. I plan to interview people at St. Joe’s, other universities, and college graduates. I will turn this into a multimedia essay. I will write down my own experiences and answers to the questions I plan to ask these people. I will write summaries comparing my answers with the answers my peers have given me. I would be interested in doing this project because I feel that it combines my major, communications, and minor, journalism, instantly. I did a lot of interviews in my news reporting class in both feature and news style. My work here will be mainly feature stories. I plan to conduct the interviews through zoom and use a H5 Zoom recorder for this project. I would also use canva to create a design. I would use adobe indesign to create a summary or mock news article for my stories. I want to do something in media and journalism when I graduate. This project would challenge because it would force me to seek out help outside of the St. Joe’s community. I plan to keep the podcast episodes at about four to six minutes per person. This relates to my prior project in digital field methods when we had to use the H5 Zoom recorder to create a TASTY video and when we had to do a postcard and other assignments. This project allows me to challenge myself, and I feel like I will be able to combine my news reporting and digital field methods class.
Pitch #2: A Memoir: Reflecting On The Changes In My Life
My second pitch is to get people to share some of the most important events that have gone on in their lives. I then plan to create this into a mock article. I do not plan to write a book on each person, but I plan to write an article of what happened in this particular event I will focus on. The event will be life changing and transformational. Like my first pitch, I will be comparing my experiences to others I plan on interviewing. This will be to expand thoughts. I would be interested in doing this because I feel that it builds off of my creative nonfiction class. We wrote many memorable events about our lives in that class, yet we didn’t do any interviewing. I will also conduct the interviews through zoom and use a H5 Zoom recorder. I will use canva to create a design for my project. I would also use adobe indesign for my articles when writing. This project would be challenging to me because I have never had a multitude of articles before. It just seems like so much work, but I really want to push myself. I have seen articles and books published from people who aren’t even writers, and it would be remarkable if I can do something like that even if it is only a short section of the book. I will still import parts of the audio as well. I plan to do a multimedia essay here as well.
Pitch #3: Blow Off Some Steam
I plan to do a multimedia essay here like my first two pitches. My third pitch is to get others’ perspective on how they deal with stress and how they should handle free time. I plan to do this in a book review format. I plan to compare their perspective and with mine. I then plan to write out other advice on how to relax and what should we do to take a break from work, studying, or whatever the case may be. I plan to interview as many people as I can and not just people my age. I would be interested in doing because it builds off of my feature writing class where we had to create listicles. Mine was to take a study break by going to get ice cream in Manayunk. I wasn’t able to interview all owners of the stores, but in this project I will be able to get a lot of people. Like my first two pitches, I will conduct the interviews in zoom and use a H5 Zoom recorder. I will use canva to create a design and logo for my project. I also plan on using adobe indesign for my advice column. This project would be challenging to me because I have struggled with anxiety and depression in the past, and I can push myself to think here. I also plan to talk to others who relate to my struggles.
