Technology Required for my Project

For my project I am going to be using the audio editing software of audacity. I currently have the up-to-date version which is the 3.4.1 version. I am using this software because when I first started as a communications major as Saint Joe’s I was given the choice of using audacity or audition for my digital fields class which required editing audio. Ever since then audacity has been my software of choice because I am comfortable with it.

What Features I Need To Master

When I first began using audacity I was only comfortable uploading and trimming audio. Since then I have been practicing with it, but will still need to master the art of optimizing sound along with having more clean transitions while getting rid of unwanted noise.

How is this technology/material social?

“Audacity is proudly open source. This means its source code remains open to anyone to view or modify. Audacity is licensed under the GNU General Public License.” – AudacityTeam.org > FAQ

  1. Collaboration: Audacity allows users to contribute to the software’s development, shaping its features and functionality. This collaborative approach portrays a sense of community among users who can share their expertise and ideas. This social aspect is enabled by Audacity’s open-source nature, encouraging a culture of contribution, feedback and knowledge.
  2. Creation and sharing: This software allows and encourages people create new or remix sounds and gives them the ability to share the audio content easily. This leads to the promotion of collaboration in the audacity community when designing or creating projects.
  3. Tutorials and learning: Audacity provides tutorials and “What’s New!” features to its software when their are updates to help users learn and troubleshoot if needed. This encourages knowledge-sharing and engagement, which can provide easier usage among users.

Audacity has empowered individuals to express themselves creatively through audio editing. It has enabled the easy access of audio production, allowing users from diverse situations to create and share their work. This accessibility has led to a more inclusive audio community, where individuals can learn, collaborate, and contribute with creativity. By lowering barriers to entry level audio editing, Audacity has transformed how people interact with technology, fostering a more participatory approach to audio production.

How does the technology/material reflect cultural values?

I believe that in this ever changing world of content and social media, people want to influence and share their work with the world. Audacity’s accessible and easy-to-use software makes it so anyone can learn, create and feel empowered without any cost barriers in place.

How will the technology/material afford your actions when you’re using it for your project?

This is be the main factor in my project since every podcast I record will be put onto a track in audacity and edited. It is convent, easy to use, & I will be able to edit from my computer on the go from anywhere I am.

How will the technology/material constrain your actions when you’re using it for your project?

As of right now, I am not sure what constrains audacity will bring for my project. I am sure that I will come across some difficulties as time continues, but for right now I am sure that audacity will bring me more help than harm, making my project and efforts easier.
